A cargo ship is a kind of ship or vessel that conveys payload, merchandise, and materials starting with one destination to another. It is also known as freighters and there are thousands that can handle the major services of international trade. It is considered to be the best mode of transportation and transfer of trade goods and any short of business item. Cargo ship services is the process of grouping products and loading onto a pallet once the products are properly packed. The whole process starts with packaging of products into individual packages before being put into an outer pack before they’re wrapped and loaded onto ship. Cargo ships are usually specially designed for the task, often being equipped with cranes and other mechanisms to load and unload, and come in all sizes. Today, they are almost always built by welded steel, and with some exceptions generally have a life expectancy before being scrapped. There are mainly different types of cargo ships and it is classified on the basis of the cargo that carry namely:
General cargo: The vessels carry packaged items like chemicals, foods, furniture, machinery, motor- and military vehicles, footwear, garments, etc.
Container ships: This are cargo ships that carry all of their load in truck-size intermodal containers, in a technique called containerization. They are a common means of commercial intermodal freight transport and now carry most seagoing non-bulk cargo. Container ship capacity is measured in twenty-foot equivalent units.
Tankers: These vessels that have especially designed containers to transport and it is used to carry petroleum products or other liquid cargo.
Dry bulk: These carriers transport non packaged loose materials like coal, food grains, ore and other similar products in loose form.
Multi-purpose vessels: It is used to carry all kinds of different goods of cargo e.g., liquid and general cargo at the same time.
Reefer ships: This ship is specifically designed and used for shipping perishable commodities which require temperature-controlled, mostly fruits, meat, fish, vegetables, dairy products and other foodstuffs.
